Bryce Lumbert
President
Bryce is a senior from Portland, Maine, majoring in biochemistry. He is on the pre-medicine track with a particular interest in surgery and research-based medicine. Since joining in Fall 2023, he has been an active member of NC State’s chapter of AED and has made countless memories and relationships in the club. His favorite part about AED is the welcoming nature it offers its members pursuing a variety of health care careers. This upcoming year, Bryce is excited to lead AED in new directions and expand upon the unique opportunities for health care exposure and connection provided through membership.
This past summer, Bryce spent time back home in Maine and worked as a medical scribe in oncology at WakeMed. Outside of AED, he conducts research in the Proulx and Simpson labs at NC State, focusing on peptide therapeutics in cancer treatment, serves as a teaching assistant for introductory biology, works as a videographer for the Technician, and is President of Premier MCAT Prep at NC State. In his free time, he loves golfing, photography, and going to concerts. Feel free to contact him with any questions, or just to connect!

Riya Ramnath
Vice President
Riya is from Cary, North Carolina, majoring in Nutrition Science. She is on the pre-dental track, with a passion in pediatric oral surgery and research on early detection of medical problems, correlating them with dental health. Since joining AED in 2023, she has not only found friends for life but created countless memories in a welcoming place where pre-health students can share their passions and support one another. Her favorite part of AED is the encouragement members give to each other, pushing one another to reach new heights while celebrating each step of the journey. This year, Riya is excited to help AED expand its impact in healthcare, encourage members to form strong bonds, and guide them in discovering their true passions through their AED journey.
This past summer, Riya explored different realms of dentistry through an internship with a local oral surgery clinic and internship/volunteer with UNC. On campus, she is dedicated to research as an assistant with STRIVE, where she studies liver cancer and its connections to environmental factors. Riya also enjoyed a full European tour this summer, visiting historic landmarks, relaxing on beaches, trying new foods, and discovering her love for traveling and connecting with new people. In her free time, Riya enjoys movie nights, reading books, fashion, music, and visiting new cafés, often with friends by her side. Above all, she values building genuine relationships and is committed to creating a bright future for children and her community. Melissa Killian
Treasurer/Fundraiser
Melissa is a junior from Greensboro, North Carolina, studying Human Biology on the pre-med track. This past summer, she gained healthcare experience by volunteering at a local hospital and shadowing a radiologist, while also completing Physics I and II and coaching a summer swim team. Outside of academics, she is passionate about health and fitness. She loves lifting weights, doing cardio, and working as a supervisor at the gym on campus. In her free time, she enjoys movies, reading, and traveling, and she is especially excited to study abroad this upcoming summer to explore new places and cultures.
As the Treasurer of AED, Melissa is looking forward to planning fun and creative fundraising events that not only support our chapter’s goals but also bring members together. She enjoys making our events both engaging and meaningful, whether that’s raising funds for service opportunities, community outreach, or member activities. AED has been an important part of her time at NC State, and she is excited to continue giving back to the organization and helping it thrive.

Ranga Gopalraj
Pledge Coordinator
Ranga is a senior from Morrisville, North Carolina double majoring in Nutrition Sciences and Biological Sciences with a Concentration in Integrative Physiology and Neurobiology. He is on the pre-medical track, hoping to work in clinical education. He has met a lot of great people since joining AED in 2024, and has made many great memories with them. His favorite part of AED is the connections he has made with the upperclassmen, and has learned a lot from their guidance. This year Ranga is looking forward to meeting all the new pledges and initiates, and creating a welcoming environment of pre-health students.
This past summer, Ranga worked as a pediatric medical assistant at his local clinic, and also went to the beach several times. On campus he is an Ambassador for the College of Sciences, working at various recruitment events for prospective students. He is also an undergraduate teaching assistant for the freshman biology classes and is the social chair for the NC State Neuroscience Club. Mohit Lagisetty
Service Coordinator
Mohit is a senior from Morrisville, North Carolina, pursuing a B.S. in Biochemistry with a minor in Biomanufacturing (BTEC). On the pre-medical track, he aspires to become a pediatrician. Through his involvement in AED, Mohit has gained valuable mentorship and guidance on prioritizing his goals for medical school. One of his most meaningful experiences with AED was the Service Learning Trip, where he had the opportunity to form lasting connections while volunteering to support underserved communities. This year, he looks forward to creating new service opportunities that will foster a fulfilling and impactful experience for current and future members.
For the past two years, Mohit has served as a research assistant in the BURT-P Lab under the guidance of Dr. Trino, focusing on viral protein purification and the evaluation of aptamers in protein interactions—work that has led to his first publication. He also contributes to the Li Lab at the Veterinary Campus, where he studies blood clot formation involving neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs). In addition, Mohit has clinical experience as an EMT and is the founder of the Elevate Minds Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to integrating AI-based tools into speech therapy for children with autism.
Passionate about building meaningful connections, Mohit is committed to ensuring that the needs of those around him are met. He welcomes anyone to reach out—whether with concerns, questions, or simply to connect.

Sophie Corley
External Social Chair
Sophie is a senior from Greenville, North Carolina, studying Biological Sciences with a concentration in Human Biology. She is currently on the pre-med track with a special interest in pediatric cardiology. Since joining, Sophie has made countless new friends and many memories that she will cherish forever. This past spring, Sophie traveled to Costa Rica with other members of AED to volunteer in a mobile medical clinic for local residents. This upcoming year, Sophie hopes to expand the reach that AED has on NC State’s campus and encourage members to find the same friendships that she is so grateful to have discovered here.
This past summer, Sophie spent her time studying and taking the MCAT in preparation for medical school. She also worked as a medical assistant in a pediatric cardiology practice in Greenville. Outside of AED, Sophie serves on the executive board for both her sorority, Alpha Delta Pi, and the MEDLife chapter of NC State. Sophie has served the past two semesters as a teaching assistant for biochemistry, and she just received her first publication on large intestine microbe research! In her free time, she loves trying new restaurants, shopping, and watching movies with friends. She is always looking for new friends and is open to any questions or concerns you may have!

Avery Kimball
Internal Social Chair
Avery is a junior from Raleigh, North Carolina, pursuing a B.S. in Biological Sciences with a Human Biology concentration and a B.A. in Anthropology. She is on a pre-medical track with aspirations of becoming an OB/GYN. As a member of NC State's chapter of AED since the fall of 2024, Avery has remained an active member of the organization, making many friends and countless memories. Her favorite part of AED is the community of hard-working individuals striving towards a pre-health career just like her. This year, Avery is excited to help AED grow, facilitate meaningful connections, and create networking opportunities for the organization's members through fun and educational social events.
This past summer, Avery spent a month shadowing physicians in Hepatic Surgery, General and Trauma Surgery, and Internal Medicine in Milan, Italy. This upcoming summer, Avery is hoping to complete her EMT certification to gain clinical experience and patient exposure. Outside of AED, Avery is involved in Pack Abroad Ambassadors and the Guiding Eyes for the Blind Club. In her free time, she enjoys thrifting, reading, upcycling, and painting. Avery is dedicated to building new relationships in fun-loving and engaging environments. She is proud to be a board member of AED and looks forward to meeting new members!

Azhaan Buttar
Secretary/Historian
Azhaan is a junior from Greensboro, North Carolina, majoring in Psychology. After graduation, he hopes to pursue his passion for medicine and research by obtaining an MD/PhD and specializing in adult congenital cardiac surgery.
Since joining AED as a freshman, Azhaan has been an active member, taking advantage of countless opportunities for growth and networking. He is now excited to give back to the organization that has supported him, inspired him, and opened the door to so many meaningful connections.
This past summer, Azhaan conducted research at the Carilion School of Medicine, where he studied the propagation of electrical impulses in cardiomyocytes. He also continues his involvement in clinical research at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital, analyzing risk factors associated with Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction (HFpEF).
Beyond AED, Azhaan is deeply engaged on campus. He serves as President of EKTAA, Chair of Public Relations for PACKSA, and is a Mental Health Ambassador for NC State. Through these roles, he works to build community, foster collaboration, and promote wellness.
